home made Jocolat

So, this is my first attempt at a home made version of Jocolat Coffee.

1 1/2 cup Pitted Dates
1/2 cup walnuts
1/2 cup raw almonds
2/3 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
6T cocoa powder
2T espresso beans (ground on the finest setting of the burr mill grinder)
4T coconut oil
2T coconut butter

I processed all of it in the food processor until it started to bind together.  The taste is amazing and very intense.
Spread in a cookie sheet, refrigerate for a little while, then cut into bars.  12 - 15 servings

  1. I've been reading about the Paleo lifestyle for a year or so. Although I'm interested, I haven't been willing to change my habits.

This evening I read your posts about converting to a Primal diet. Your journey is (scarily) identical to my own. The more ultras/marathons I complete, the more sugar/carbs I consume. I'm doing my first 50 miler in April. Despite doing a marathon a month, I'm the heaviest I've been in years.

I'm sick of having fat finish line photos. I'm ready to change.

Thanks for blogging your story, it's encouraging to read about someone who is doing ultra distances on a paleo diet. I know that it can be done.

I ditch the sugar and bread this weekend. In 2 weeks I'm doing a 12 hour race in Boise. And 2 weeks after that, my 50 miler in Las Vegas.

I'll let you know how it goes...

    1. Hi, Lori! So happy to read your response to my blog! I was very skeptical at first, but the longer I have kept my diet clean, the stronger and faster I have become. Please do let me know how you are doing. If you have any questions... ask!

I know Hammer Gel is not necessarily "Paleo" but it's better than most. I just did a half-marathon yesterday, only using 2 hammer gels and two endurolytes, and a full marathon today using 4 hammer gels, 2 homemade Pemmican bars, 4 endurolytes, and 2 hammer fizz. No problems even though it was very hot today. So, yes, you can do this "Paleo"!

    2. I would also like to add... since I can't contact you directly... don't be afraid of the fat. You have to make sure you are eating enough of the right kinds of fat when you drop the grains and sugars. Fat like coconut oil, coconut butter, good quality butter like Kerigold or Organic Valley in the green wrapper... find grass fed beef if you can by searching www.eatwild.com, or some Whole Foods markets carry it. Free range eggs... smoked pork belly. cut out all industrial seed oils as well... no Canola, Corn, Soybean etc.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
